Across the UK, disadvantaged pupils are likely to be hit harder than most by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in terms of their education.
While many school children are able to continue with some form of home schooling, many disadvantaged pupils are in danger of being cut adrift.
This is a particular issue for one of our partner schools Archway Learning Trust. In one of their Academies only a very small minority of students have access to a computer and WiFi at home.
This is unthinkable and must come as a shock to any parent with children who take the ‘essentials’ of home computer and broadband almost for granted.
A similar situation exists at many schools across the UK. Perhaps even more shocking is that significant numbers of disadvantaged children have a social worker assigned to them, live in an abusive home, and also rely on their school to provide them with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There is a massive and urgent requirement for us to prioritise support for such schools and pupils during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Without the help of the BeReady SupportUKSchools initiative, the pandemic could see the education of the UK’s most disadvantaged children brought to a standstill.
If you are an employer or corporate and want to do something to help disadvantaged pupils, please get in touch. Read on for information about the ways in which you can help.
Employers and corporates, below are some of the ways you can help the UK’s disadvantaged children.
Does your company have spare laptops or PCs that you can donate?
Are you a company that deals in refurbished laptops and PCs and can help by providing some essential hardware?
Does your company have ‘end of life’ laptops or PCs that one of our other partner companies may be able to refurbish?
Are you an Internet Service Provider, or Openreach, and able to help our in-need partner schools with selected free provisioning of broadband for disadvantaged pupils?
If you can help in any of the above ways, or have other ideas about how you can help, please contact us urgently.
